Do You Follow These Leadership Principles?

Leadership Principles

We are reflecting on the first six months of the year and looking ahead to the second half of the year.  I was reminded of the John Wooden Leadership principles.  I believe they are timeless leadership principles that are especially relevant in today’s climate of change, transition, and transformation—whether you are leading a team through digital transformation, organizational restructuring, or simply an adaptive leader working to effectively guide your organization through disruption or uncertainty.

I highlighted a few Wooden Leadership Principles below that resonated with me as we reflected on the horizon behind us and the horizon in front of us.

Daily Excellence

Wooden Leadership Principle: “Make each day your masterpiece.”

This principle encourages intentionality and presence. During change, it is easy to get overwhelmed by the big picture. Wooden’s leadership advice reminds leaders to focus on daily excellence, which builds momentum and confidence over time.

Focusing on small, daily wins helps leaders stay grounded and effective even under pressure.

Fundamentals First

Wooden Leadership Principle: “Little things make big things happen.”

Investing in the basics—like communication, feedback, and coaching—pays off.

Emotional Control

Wooden Leadership Principle: “Emotion is your enemy.”

Leaders who stay calm and emotionally intelligent can better guide teams through resistance.

Lead with Intention. Decide with Insight.

As we reflect on the first half of the year and look ahead to what’s next, John Wooden’s timeless leadership principles remind us that success—whether in business or site selection—is built on fundamentals: daily excellence, emotional control, and a commitment to doing the little things right.

In today’s climate of disruption and transformation, choosing the right location for your business isn’t just about incentives—it’s about aligning your strategy with evolving policy, infrastructure, and workforce dynamics. The second half of 2025 will bring new opportunities, but only for those prepared to act with clarity and confidence.

That’s where we come in.
